*Whether you're new to Elk Grove or you've lived here for years, it's good to know where to find a trail, park or running/walking route. If you have a favorite route, please email us at service@runningzone.us and share it with us so we can share it with other local runners and walkers.
Following is a list of resources for finding places to walk and run in the Elk Grove and surrounding area. Many routes are on roads, but there are some local trails included as well.
1) www.usatf.org/routes : (website of USA Track & Field). Click on "Find a Route". Enter "Elk Grove" under city and "Ca" under state. Click "Search". There are currently ( as of Sept. 17, 2006) 128 routes in Elk Grove ranging in distance from 1 mile to 13 miles. All routes have been entered by local runners and walkers.
2) www.egcsd.ca.gov : (website of Elk Grove Parks & Recreation Dept.) Click on "Parks & Facilities". Click on "Trails". You can also go to the Parks and Rec. Activity Guide online and look at a trails map on page 4 of the Activity Guide as well as find parks close to your home or work.
3) www.smud.org/about/recreation/howardranchhtml : This site gives information about a 7 mile loop trail located at Ranch Seco Park located about 1/2 hour south of Elk Grove off Highway 99/ Twin Cities Road exit.
4) www.arpf.org : Website of the American River Parkway, a 23 mile long multi-use cycling, walking, running, equestrian trail. Well worth the drive from Elk Grove.
5) Elk Grove Park: located on Elk Grove-Florin Rd. this 120 acre park has plenty of space to run and will soon be home to a 3 mile decomposed granite walking & running trail.
6) www.egplanning.org/trails/ : Website of the City of Elk Grove Trails committee. Contains the newly released 78 page City of Elk Grove Trails Master Plan. Public comment is being welcomed on this document and plan for creating a trail system in Elk Grove.
